How to play
Every emoji stands for one word of the answer, or for a word that sounds like it. The answer is always a saying, an everyday phrase, a film or book title, a food, a place, an animal or an object — hint 1 tells you which. For example, ⭐🐟 would be “starfish” and 👁️🥫 could be “I can”, because the eye is read as the sound “I”.
- Four guesses. You start with one hint. Each wrong guess unlocks the next: first the number of words and the letters in each, then how the answer starts.
- Typing is forgiving. Capitals, punctuation, spaces and a leading “the”, “a” or “an” are ignored, so “Wind in the Willows” and “the wind in the willows!” count the same. Common alternative wordings are accepted too.
- One puzzle a day, the same for everyone. A new one appears at 00:00 UTC, whatever your time zone.
- Streaks count puzzles solved on consecutive days. A missed day or a puzzle you do not solve resets the current streak to 0; your best streak is kept.
- Sharing never spoils it. Share sends the puzzle number, one square per guess (🟥 wrong, 🟩 right), your streak and the link — never the answer or your guesses.
- No account, nothing sent. Your progress and stats are stored only in this browser (localStorage). Clearing site data or switching to another device starts your stats from zero.
Film night is a second puzzle each day, answered only by a film or TV series title, such as 🔍🐟 for “Finding Dory”. Hint 1 says “A film” or “A TV series” and usually the decade. It has its own streak and stats, so you can keep one, both or neither going, and its share line starts “Stay Dank Film night #”.
På dansk: Dagens emoji-gåde is a separate daily puzzle in Danish — Danish sayings, idioms, songs and titles, not translations of these — with its own streak. It accepts æ, ø and å typed as ae, oe and aa.
Emojis are drawn by your own device's font, so the same puzzle looks a little different on an iPhone, Android or Windows.
